The Mibbit servers have various load balancing methods and functions, so as to give all Mibbit users a consistent experience. By using the primary server names for the different types of connections, you are assured that you will be placed on the most appropriate server that best suits both of our needs.
In this way, Mibbit can also schedule upgrades and minimize downtime for all users, by directing users to appropriate servers in anticipation of such down time.
chat.mibbit.com
This is the primary Mibbit Client server. When you connect to this server, the load balance will redirect you to one of the Client servers.

Normally it is possible for you to directly enter the redirected server name, and within reason, it should function, but we do not recommend it, as you would be overriding the redirection software, you may be placing yourself on a server that may be off-line, or pending maintenance. Currently you should use client01.chat.mibbit.com instead of chat.mibbit.com .

This is the primary Mibbit IRC address ("round robin"). When you connect to this address, the load balancer will redirect you to one of the IRC servers.
