/ignore <user>
will hide all channel messages from <user> until next connection to the server.
/unignore <user>
revokes the /ignore command.
Users of a Mibbit client have ignore/unignore commands in the user menu (when you click a user in the right column).
The /ignore command is client dependent (while /silence is a server command).
