An MOTD is also known as a "Message of the Day". Despite being called by that name, the MOTD of a server rarely changes. When a user connects to a server, the server sends the message.

Disable Showing MOTD

For various reasons, users may not wish to view the MOTD.

For the main client, users can disable showing the MOTD in preferences. The preference is in the "What to Show" section of "Chat Data".

For the widget, administrators can disable showing the MOTD with the URI parameter NoServerMotd=true.

Command

To view the MOTD after joining the server, use the command /motd.
